Blue Flag Beaches is a certification given by the Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE) and is an important award for countries that attract tourists for beach vacations.
Turkey now currently holds 324 Blue Flag Beach awards meaning you are spoiled for choice when it comes to picking a great beach in Turkey.
I am especially please to find out our home town of Dikili has been awarded a Blue Flag for its beach.
To be awarded a Blue Flag Certificate the Beaches are required to meet 4 areas of requirements, which are:
- Environmental Education and Information
- Water Quality
- Environmental Management
- Safety and Services
Each certificate is award for only one season at a time, and if any one of the criteria’s is not met the certificate will be withdrawn.

NataliePersonally I have to questions some of the blue flag beaches. especially in the Aydin and Izmir areas. The criteria should be higher or back handeders should be stopped!
